Hobson’s Choice by Harold Brighouse ran from Wednesday 17th May through to Saturday 20th May, all performances starting at 7:30pm, at the Bonington Theatre, Arnold Leisure Centre, High Street, Arnold, Nottingham, NG5 7EE.
Hobson’s Choice stars one of the greatest comic characters in English drama, Henry Horatio Hobson; a self-made man, shopkeeper, skinflint and boozer, he’s a tyrant to his daughters and a law unto himself. When Maggie, his eldest daughter, defies Hobson’s wishes by marrying Willie Mossop, his own boot-maker, a battle of wills begins, in which he stands to lose his customers, his daughters and his pride, but ultimately, it’s Hobson’s choice!
The Prospect Players first staged Hobson’s Choice in 1990. It was brought back to the stage in celebration of the play’s 100th year.
